“Let not your heart turn aside to her ways; do not stray into her path.” Proverbs 25:7
If there is any doubt that God understands my sinful nature it’s shattered by His warning in Proverbs 7.
The personified Wisdom is warning against sexual sin in this passage but the principle applies to all sin – Don’t just resist it but don’t even get near it.
Look at the progression in verses 7-13
“I have perceived among the youths, a young man lacking sense, passing along the street near her corner… at every corner she lies in wait. She seizes him”
This young man lost 90% of the battle the moment he strayed near her path. The trap was set and the moment we get near it’s over. We know the sins we struggle with yet we set ourselves up for failure when we choose to wander into temptation’s territory.
“a bird rushes into a snare; he does not know that it will cost him his life.” vs 23.
This is no trivial matter, that trap is set to destroy our lives and our testimony. Why would I dare play such a suicidal game?
Lord may I surrender each day to your path & allow you to order my steps toward holiness so that I may preserve my life and honor you.
