The New Manhattan Project | What’s Up with the Secret Cybersecurity Plans, Senators Ask DHS |
Ryan Singel | May 23 2008 | link

It has an ominous name, a budget request of $200M, and its part of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) new National Cyber Security Center. Would you like to know more? Yeah, well so would Congress. As a matter of fact DHS has been so vague and evasive that sensible Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Connecticut) and Sen Susan Collins (R-Maine *note the R) sent a letter to Secretary Michael Chertoff.

I don’t really mind when the government is tight lipped to the public but when Senate oversight committees are completely in the dark it usually isn’t good.

I’ll be the first to say that cyberwar and cyber security should be at the forefront of our national defense strategy but we must use checks and balances to maintain the proper course.

It’s that whole constitution thing ya know.
