The fed finds out gas prices are high

The federal government finally realized that gas prices are at record highs. They also remembered an Econ 101 priniciple called Supply and Demand. Since the World’s Demand is increasing and yet our “pals” in the Middle East continue to trickle out crude oil we must increase are own supply. We must drill for oil.

Why must our government take action for this to happen? Why can’t Oil Company XYZ go drop a rig in the ocean? Well, Our federal government currently has 2 moratoriums that prohibit increased offshore oil drilling. The Presidential moratorium was first implemeneted under President Bush (41) and has been re-implemented by the last 2 Presidents. The second moratorium is a congressional moratorium that has been in place for 2 decades. Our governement is taking steps to lift both of these atrocities.

President Bush is now pledging to lift the Presidential Moratorium and is supporting House Bill “H.R. 2784: National Environment and Energy Development Act” which will lift the congressional ban. The bill is currently being considered by committee but is expected to be fast tracked to the House floor.

Democrats are staunchly opposing the bill for no good reason. (Silly me, I always forget that Liberal positions are based on feelings in lieu of facts and logic). Barack Obama even trotted out that old standby,

“This is not something that’s going to give consumers short-term relief and it is not a long-term solution to our problems with fossil fuels generally and oil in particular,” Obama said.

Well Mr. Obama, if we’d acted back in the 1980’s when Dem’s said that energy policies would not affect prices for 10 to 20 years we would be reaping the benefit now. Like any good Lib he has no facts, no vision, and no answer. Dems are the party of “NO”. This stubborn short sightedness in such a seasoned Politician is quite surprising.

However, I dare not lay all fault at the hands of the Democrats. President Bush 41 was the first to implement the moratorium and Bush 43 has upheld it for the past 7 years. He just suddenly had a change a heart yet he should have dropped the ban early in his term. The Repub Congress of the 90’s didn’t do anything to help either. Elected Republicans are as worthless and self serving as the counterparts.

Government needs to get out of the energy market and allow Supply, Demand, & Competition unfettered reign. Never forget – Government is not the solution to our problem, Government is the problem.

I agree with what you said regarding the fact that we needed to begin drilling in the 1980’s. The position that states why drill now if we won’t see rewards for 10 years is like saying why research for a cancer vacine, as a cure won’t be found immediately. This is shear lunacy. Anyone who is interested can check out this site at Freedom works for the Gas Price Protest Site, and check up on Freedom Works in a few days for a press release on oil shale and why we need to start production now. Thanks!
