Sony Relents; DRM Rookit tagged by MS

Sony BMG is responding to the widespread criticism of it’s DRM Rootkit by suspending the use of the controversial software. “As a precautionary measure, Sony BMG is temporarily suspending the manufacture of CDs containing XCP technology,” it said in a statment.

I personally like the warning of a senior Homeland Security official “It’s very important to remember that it’s your intellectual property, it’s not your computer,”…”And in the pursuit of protection of intellectual property, it’s important not to defeat or undermine the security measures that people need to adopt in these days.” Amen

Also, Microsoft has labeled the technology as spyware to be detected and removed via Microsoft’s AntiSpyware (recently termed Defender).

Three cheer’s to the EFF and the netizens that helped bring this to the attention of the world. Power to the People.
