AT&T wants to see your traffic

This story has been out for a bit and I’m surprised that it didn’t generate more buzz. AT&T wants to “examine all the traffic it carries for potential violations of U.S. intellectual property laws.” Considering the size of their network this could conceivably be %90 of all US traffic.

This on the heels of Japanese and French ISP’s wanting to identify pirated traffic and now AT&T thinks this is a good idea?

The prospect of AT&T, already accused of spying on our telephone calls, now scanning every e-mail and download for outlawed content is way too totalitarian for my tastes… If I were a shareholder, I’d want to know one thing: Has AT&T, after 122 years in business, simply lost its mind?

I’d have to agree.
